This 3rd / 4th floor project for the Cambridge Innovation Center doubled the size of this innovative incubation company located in Kendall Square in Cambridge. The complexity of the design revolved around accommodating a highly flexible/adaptable configuration of dense spaces that could evolve and adapt to varying configurations based on continuously changing client requirements. A wide variety of conference rooms, huddle rooms, telephone booths, and soft flexible meeting areas were integrated throughout the space, and a large central café / meeting area was placed at the intersection of 2 wings to foster interaction and a sense of community between CIC’s clients.
The 5th floor renovation of the Cambridge Innovation Center takes a new approach to the idea of innovative incubation for start-ups. The design is based on CIC as an ecosystem that provides space for multiple “communities” to collaborate and share ideas. Interspersed throughout the floor are a variety of huddle/conference rooms At the opposite end, separated from the main office space, is a cafe/meeting area where CIC’s clients can gather for coffee, food, and events in an environment designed to feel like you’ve left the office.
