Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Client: Ginkgo Bioworks
Size: 20,000 sq ft (Phase 1)
Ginkgo Bioworks is an organism engineering foundry that began with a 20,000 sf. facility in Bostons Drydock Building. The master plan proposes a 4 phase rapid growth spanning the next few years. By creating a module that locates the lab as the central hub surrounded by the necessary support spaces, the growth becomes a cellular process that can quickly be added with minor adjustments to specialize the more intricate details of each lab. The 20,000 sf phase 1 will include a new foundry space, as well as a freezer farm, fermentation lab, and several other specialized lab components.
