Skating Club Of Boston
Located in Norwood, MA this 180,000 sf, ground-up three skating rink facility was built for The Skating Club of Boston, a 100+ year old, globally-recognized figure skating group. The three rinks consist of a 2,500 seat, Olympic-sized main sheet used to host various events ranging from Olympic qualifying, ISU, and theatrical ice shows.
A FACILITY BUILT FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS

The two remaining rinks are standard size. The first seats 1,500 and figure skating only. The other is multipurpose and allows hockey, where they are working with the local town team. In addition to the primary program of the rinks, the facility includes a physical therapy suite managed by a third party offering exam rooms, radiology screening, dance, and off-ice training space.

Working with Montreal-based metal building manufacturer, Lainco, Studio Troika utilized their proprietary architectural truss system to span the main rink while creating an eye-catching aesthetic sought by the client.

The exterior of the facility is primarily a thermally efficient two-tone insulated metal panel with a continuous sloping roof. The street-facing façade plane is then broken by creating two decorative wood toned towers, roof deck, and a healthy amount of glazing to help bring in the natural northern light to the main rink. In doing so, this creates a striking image as visitors from all over the world enter this facility.
